School Holiday Ending.........

It's the second last day of the school holidays.... Today, I've prepared pasta and some canned mushroom soup for lunch. The pasta sauce we bought were not as good as the prego brand. Nevertheless, the children managed to finish off everything for me. =.="

It has been a lazy Saturday afternoon. I'm trying to enjoy the last bit of the holidays, slacking around the house before the new school term starts. However, my 2 children were still rushing to finish their holiday homework. Hahaha........... 临时抱佛脚!

In the evening, we decided to dine out. We took a walk to Downtown East and eventually settled down in "NewYork, NewYork" the newly opened restaurant. The dishes we ordered were so so....... except for Trishh's "beef chunks covered with mashed potatoes". It was good and everybody were going after her meal. Muahaha........

After the main course, we ordered desserts........ Trishh chose the Very Sinful Fried Bananas Chocolate Lake with Ice-cream & I ordered the Daboom! (super sinful) Chocolate Mud Pie with melted Chocolate and Ice-cream. We all enjoyed the desserts very much! Mmmmmm.....

Father's Day

Father's Day has become a day to not only honor father, but all men who act as a father figure. Stepfathers, uncles, grandfathers, and adult male friends are all honored on Father's Day.

It would be interesting to know how Father's Day came into practice and celebrated worldwide with an equal sincerity and respect as any other significant holidays.

Here's a short history on the holiday, and meaning of the different colors of roses to be worn that Day. (http://theholidayspot.com/fathersday/history.htm)

About 4,000 years ago a young boy named Elmusu wished his Babylonian father good health and a long life by carving a Father's Day message on a card made out of clay. No one knows what happened to Elmesu or his father, but the tradition of having a special day honoring fathers has continued through the years in countries across the world.

Father's Day is celebrated popularly on 3rd Sunday in June in many parts of the world. The idea for creating a day for children to honor their fathers began in Spokane, Washington.

A woman by the name of Sonora Smart Dodd thought of the idea for Father's Day while listening to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909. Having been raised by her father, Henry Jackson Smart, after her mother died, Sonora wanted her father to know how special he was to her. It was her father that made all the parental sacrifices and was, in the eyes of his daughter, a courageous, selfless, and loving man.

Sonora's father was born in June, so she chose to hold the first Father's Day celebration in Spokane, Washington on the 19th of June, 1910.

In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the third Sunday in June as Father's Day. President Nixon, in 1972, established a permanent national observance of Father's Day to be held on the third Sunday of June.

So Father's Day was born as a token of love and gratitude that a daughter cherishes for her beloved father.

Roses are the Father's Day flowers: red to be worn for a living father and white if the father has died.

Dad, daddy, pop, papa, and pa are some common or familiar words for a father. Many times these terms denote affection or a paternal role in a child's life.

Here here some of the many languages to say 'father':

Dutch - pappie
African - baba
Filipino - tatay, itay, tay
Indonesian - bapa, ayah, pak
Italian - babbo
Japanese - otosan, papa
Old English - faeder
Polish - tata

~ Some quotations for Father's Day ~

How true Daddy's words were when he said:
"All children must look after their own upbringing."
Parents can only give good advice or put them on the right paths,
but the final forming of a person's character lies in their own hands.
~ Anne Frank ~

"By the time a man realizes that maybe his father was right,
he usually has a son who thinks he's wrong."
~ Charles Wadsworth ~

"Other things may change us,
but we start and end with family"
~ Anthony Brandt ~

On this day, Sean & Trishh woke up early (Erm... I think it's about 11am) to prepare breakfast (more likely lunch) for their daddy....

Thank you darling for being the husband and father I always dreamt of having.

We Love You!

No celebration is complete until it is shared with our Family!

No matter what you've done for yourself or for humanity,
if you can't look back on having given love and attention to your own family,
what have you really accomplished?

Canopy Walk ~ HortPark

Sean's gathering with his ex-classmate was cancelled..... So as not to waste the day away, we planned to explore part of the southern ridges of singapore ~ the Canopy Walk, the newly opened HortPark and the Alexandra Arch across Alexandra Road.

The Canopy Walk is located at the end of Pepys Road near the Reflections At Bukit Chandu (Heritage Museum) @ Kent Ridge Park.

Reflections At Bukit Chandu (Heritage Museum)

We head through the property of the heritage museum to the starting point of The Canopy Walk that consists of a raised wooden walkway. It stretches 300 metres through a secondary forest and is elevated 16 metres above ground.

While walking on the wooden walkway, we were able to see the breathtaking views of Telok Blangah area and the lush greenery.

After the wooden walkway, we were faced with a decending sloping pathway. Being lazy, we sidestepped across the winding path, under the scorching hot sun towards the HortPark. o.O

The HortPark is Southeast Asia’s first one-stop centre for gardening-related recreational, educational, research and retail activities in a park setting. Some park highlights include attractive themed gardens as well as outdoor display plots showcasing designs and ideas for home gardening. These are some of the pictures taken while we were there.

The hike back to our car was tiring cause we were going up slope.

Finally when we reached the top, we took a 'break' outside the heritage museum.

& the 2 boys were up to something again........

Nope?!!!!!!!!!!

Haha! This time............. slippers snatching! o.O

After the exploration, we went to Vivo City for some ice cold desserts and later had our dinner there too.

These were pictures taken outside Vivo City.......

Next time we will try to explore the other part of the Southern Ridges' Scenic spots! tata...
